Malaysians' 'feel good' factor boosted by surging ringgit and economy, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Encouraging economic indicators and the strength of the ringgit have provided a renewed "feel good factor" and boosted the confidence of Malaysians, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the positive developments serve as a catalyst for the people to remain united and continue supporting the government's aspirations to build stronger national unity.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, added that economic stability is crucial to sustain harmony in a multiracial society.

"When we are part of the existing unity government, we must collectively ensure this spirit of harmony and diversity is preserved to ensure Malaysia remains peaceful.

"With sound economic growth and an improving exchange rate, the people will continue to unite and support the government's aspirations," he said when speaking at an Umno buka puasa event here on Thursday (Feb 26).

Also present at the event were MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan and other top component party leaders.

Ahmad Zahid said Ramadan serves as a platform for Muslims to improve acts of worship, strengthen charitable deeds and cultivate discipline through fasting.

"In the context of Malaysia as a multi-racial and multi-religious nation, gatherings such as this represent a true manifestation of harmony and mutual respect.

"These are the values that we must continue to uphold and emulate," he said.

Umno also treated 50 students and orphans from Rumah Anak Yatim Shifa, Pelajar Rumah Titian Kaseh and Akademi Tahfiz Masjid Lapangan Terbang Sultan Salahuddin Abd Aziz Subang.
