I WAS very happy to read about the installation of outdoor gyms at USJ 4/8 and a few other sections in Subang Jaya (StarMetro, July 2).
However, the largest recreation area in Subang Jaya, the Subang Ria Park, has nothing to offer except for a lake, an old jogging track, some broken benches and a few work stations that are rotting away.
Over the years, the park has become an eyesore for residents of Subang Jaya.
The former mentri besar had said that the state was unable to maintain the park since it was handed over to a private company.
The onus should be on the company to maintain the beautiful park, besides just cutting the grass.
The tennis court, paintball and go-karting arenas as well as bumper car station are being left to rot.
The lake used to be a beautiful boating place with small huts and a snack bar gazebo at the jetty. Now, we have virtually nothing in the park.
Every morning, hundreds of residents exercise and jog at the park but they have nowhere to go if it rains or even to rest.
I hope the private company can make some effort to improve the place and maintain it well or hand it over to the local council.
All towns in Malaysia have beautiful parks and gardens but the Subang Ria Park has some empty space and some huge billboards to list out the rules of the park.
If all else fails, at least an outdoor/indoor gym or a few futsal courts for the young may be a useful contribution.
