Some 1,400 senior citizens in Yong Peng are benefitting from the “Bantuan Kasih Johor” (BKJ) cash-aid programme, says Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said Johor government was currently distributing Phase 4 of the BKJ to those who had appealed.
“The assistance is intended for senior citizens aged 60 and above.
“This is how the Barisan Nasional-led Johor government gives back to the people and cares for our senior citizens,” he said in a Facebook post after visiting SJK(C) Yong Peng 1 to observe the distribution of the BKJ.
With him was Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who is Yong Peng assemblyman.
Dr Wee also expressed hope that the contribution could help ease the cost of living.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had earlier announced that more than 235,000 recipients would benefit under the BKJ appeal phase, involving an allocation of RM47.13mil.
“Since the programme was implemented, the state has received feedback and appeals from Johor citizens.
“We listened, examined and reviewed the applications so that those who genuinely met the criteria could be duly considered.
“A total of 235,545 recipients from 21 categories, including senior citizens, full-time housewives, newlyweds, hawkers, small traders, people with disabilities, orphans and low-income families, have been approved for the aid,” Onn Hafiz said.
According to the Mentri Besar, the state government believes the people shall benefit when Johor’s revenue increases and that the appeal mechanism ensures deserving recipients are not left out.
