HOUSEWIFE Kavitha Kaur is grateful to have regained clear vision in both eyes after cataract surgery.
Kavitha, who is also a cancer patient, is from Bukit Kempas, Johor Baru.
She underwent surgery on her right eye in August last year, followed by a second procedure on her left eye this month.
“At first, I experienced symptoms such as itching, stinging and watery eyes,” she said at the OasisEye Specialists in Country Garden Danga Bay, Johor Baru.
Kavitha said that every time she experienced discomfort, she applied eye drops but the symptoms would return.
After a check in June last year at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah Ophthalmology Clinic, she was diagnosed with cataracts.
“After the first surgery on my right eye, my vision improved,” she added.

For police retiree Khamis Hashim, his eyesight started becoming blurry in 2024.
“I went to the hospital and was informed that I had cataracts,” he said.
He chose to self-fund his first cataract surgery last year and paid RM4,000 because the waiting list at the public hospital was too long.
He was grateful to be selected to undergo a second eye surgery at the eye centre this month.
Kavitha and Khamis were among 10 patients who underwent free cataract surgery at the eye centre, courtesy of academician Datuk Dr Harjit Singh Dalliwall.

This marks the third time in two years that Dr Harjit has sponsored cataract surgery, benefitting 30 individuals to date.
Meanwhile, consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon Dr Ling Kiet Phang advised those experiencing persistent eye discomfort to consult specialists.
“Do not take things for granted,” he said, while advising them to only buy eye drops from authorised sellers to prevent complications.
“Untreated cataracts can cause blindness,” he said.
