KLANG: Selangor government has allocated RM20mil since 2025 to tackle various strata-related issues affecting homeowners across the state.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the amount was to cover various procedures including gathering and updating owners’ information.
"Many problems relating to strata titles and ownership stem from development projects that were approved before 2008.
"Some developers had failed or neglected their responsibilities (to help unit owners to form the management bodies and handle related issues).
"Since then, some have gone into liquidation, further complicating the process of obtaining the information needed for the issuance of strata titles," he said.
Amirudin added that resolving strata issues was complex and time-consuming as these developments often involved hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of units.
“Imagine having to verify the ownership data for a single development with more than 200 units, or even thousands.
"It takes time because we have to complete many steps that were not performed in the past,” he noted.
The mentri besar was speaking at the Selangor Strata Community Empowerment Initiative 2026 in Klang on Thursday (Sept 17).
On a related matter, he said more funds would be injected into Selangor's Skim Ceria, originally introduced in 2009, to help spruce up and maintain rundown strata schemes in the state.
Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, meanwhile, said the state government had allocated RM5.7mil, via the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), for various strata community empowerment programmes this year.
The amount, he noted, was disbursed through Skim Ceria, Selangor Apartment Revitalisation and Community Strengthening Programme (Spark) and C-Smart 2.0.
“Of the total, RM5.16mil was allocated under Skim Ceria for repair works at 12 strata housing schemes, used to repair shared facilities such as roofs, water tanks and pumps, among others.
"Another RM184,000 was channelled to 23 apartments under Spark, with each scheme receiving an RM8,000 grant.
"A further RM340,000 has been allocated for C-Smart 2.0 involving all 12 local authorities in Selangor,” he said.
