A CONTRACTOR hired to renovate a kitchen in Felda Bukit Ramun, Kulai, failed to complete part of the job despite getting full payment.
Former cooperative administrative officer Misliah Mugari said the contractor did not install the upper cabinets in her kitchen, despite completing other works.
“The total cost of the renovation project was RM8,440, out of which RM5,600 was for upper cabinets in laminate finishing,” she said when met outside Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal at Menara Ansar in Johor Baru.
The claimant said the full renovation included construction of a partition wall with concrete beams and columns, alongside plastering and skim coat finishing on both sides.
Other works included replacing an old window, as well as removing an old sink and installing a new one, with piping relocation and tiling works.
She said the contractor had also installed two units of three-pin plug sockets (looping), added LED downlights with wiring, and put in the kitchen hood.
The cost minus the cabinets came to RM2,840.
Misliah said she learned about the contractor, who is from Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, through one of her neighbours, who had hired him for her home renovation works.
She made a bank transfer of RM5,000 on Feb 4 this year.
The contractor was set to start the job on Feb 7, but only turned up two days later, she said.
Misliah made the remaining payment on March 9.
Upon receiving the money, the contractor promised to install the cabinet within a month.
“While he managed to complete other works, he failed to install the cabinet,’’ she said.
Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent to refund RM5,600 to the claimant within two weeks.
