Tree maintenance is taking place in several areas in Ipoh, Perak.
An Ipoh City Council (MBI) spokesperson said works were being carried out in areas such as Gunung Rapat, Menglembu, Jelapang, Pengkalan, Manjoi and Meru Raya by appointed contractors.
“They are being carried out under a special allocation to expedite the maintenance of trees, at a cost of some RM1.4mil.
“The city council is aware of the delay in resolving some complaints, due to the high number received which exceeds the capacity of the respective departments.
“The contractual work is to complement routine tree maintenance carried out by MBI’s Parks and Landscape Department.”
About 2,503 trees are undergoing checks, including pruning of branches to reduce the load on the structure, improving canopy balance and minimising the risk of branch breakage during adverse weather.
“MBI also felled 332 trees that were dead, decayed or damaged, which have been identified based on inspections and those that posed a risk to the public.
“These works were carried out according to a priority list based on field inspections, risk assessments and public complaints.”
The spokesperson advised road users to take note of warning signs and instructions from personnel while maintenance works were ongoing.
“The second phase of maintenance works will cover several other zones in the city.”
