A SERIES of upgrades is being carried out along Persiaran Subang Permai in USJ1, Subang Jaya to enhance walkability and safety of pedestrians.
Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) said the upgrades were expected to be completed this month using a RM1.94mil allocation.
Included in the project’s scope is a new walkway on one side of Persiaran Subang Permai (opposite EasyHome Mall) to provide pedestrian access to the nearby LRT USJ7 station.
“The walkway’s construction can enhance connectivity while improving the area’s safety,” MBSJ said in a statement to StarMetro.
Additionally, MBSJ said the road divider of Persiaran Subang Permai will be rebuilt using poured-in-place concrete on site.
Other upgrade scopes include installing LED street lights and decorative light poles, building kerbs and resurfacing the road.

Separately, MBSJ said it was also drafting terms of reference (TOR) to hire a consultant for a proposed covered pedestrian bridge at the Persiaran Kewajipan–Persiaran Subang Permai junction.
In a StarMetro article “MBSJ rebuilding USJ1 pedestrian bridge with disabled-friendly features” on May 14, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng said the bridge was needed after a proposed flyover was scrapped due to rising costs.
The flyover would have allowed motorists heading toward the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and Federal Highway to bypass the Persiaran Kewajipan traffic lights.
There used to be a pedestrian bridge connecting the LRT USJ7 station to Easyhome Mall, but it was demolished to make way for the flyover.
MBSJ said the necessary approvals for the bridge would be sought in its consultant evaluation committee meeting after the TOR is finalised.
To ease peak-hour congestion at the Persiaran Subang Permai–Persiaran Kewajipan junction, MBSJ also introduced a smart traffic light system that uses coordinated “green waves” to keep vehicles moving.
“This allows a more systematic management of the traffic lights’ timing to optimise vehicles’ movement, reduce the stop-and-go frequency and avoid the concentration of traffic at the junction during peak hours.
“Besides, manual traffic monitoring is also conducted by police when needed,” added MBSJ.
