MBSA tourism app targeted for launch early next year

A NEW tourism app developed by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is 80% complete and slated for launch early next year.

MBSA Community Development Department director Shahrin Ahmad said the app would be developed from the council’s existing tourism portal, which lists attractions and popular spots in the city.

The app is being developed by his department in collaboration with the council’s Digital Department.

Besides tourist attractions and restaurants, the app will include practical information such as the location of the Immigration Department, Hospital Shah Alam and pharmacies as well as emergency contact numbers.

“When we travel, sometimes we fall ill and need to find help, or a tourist may lose their passport and need to find the nearest Immigration office.

“We are taking all of this into account,” Shahrin said at a press conference after MBSA’s full board meeting.

He said the app was mainly for domestic tourists, especially those from outside Selangor.

Shahrin added that Shah Alam received 1.3 million tourists last year, an increase of about 74% from 747,576 in 2024.

He said MBSA counted only those who stayed overnight in the city as tourists, while those who visited for a day were classified as visitors.

MBSA worked with Tourism Selangor and Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to promote attractions in the city, he added.

These include the National Botanic Gardens Shah Alam, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque and i-City.

Shahrin also said MBSA already had tour packages covering stays of one to three nights and planned to engage two travel agents to promote them.

The aim, he said, was to get visitors to stay longer, so that spending benefitted hotels, malls, restaurants and other local businesses.

The efforts are part of the Shah Alam Tourism Action Plan 2026-2030, launched in January.
