KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) is planning to leverage on Selangor Hockey Association’s (SHA) expertise to manage and operate the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium.
Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said besides being a sports venue, the stadium was a strategic public asset.
“It must be managed with professionalism, efficiency and long-term sustainability. SHA has the expertise, and MBDK will engage the association to manage and operate the stadium,” he said.
The stadium is located between Jalan Sukma and Jalan Raja Lumu in Pandamaran, Port Klang.
MBDK refurbished the stadium at an estimated RM9mil.
The city council will hold a soft launch at 5pm today, followed with a test game for the upcoming Sukma 2026.
The 22nd Sukma will take place in Selangor from Aug 15 to 24, followed by Para Sukma from Sept 5 to 10.
“This investment is not merely an expenditure, it is a strategic investment that will deliver long-term returns through sports development, community wellbeing, and local economic growth,” Abd Hamid told StarMetro.
He added MBDK was taking proactive steps to establish a dedicated stadium management team to oversee operations, maintenance, security, promotions and bookings in a more structured, efficient and professional manner.
Abd Hamid added this would ensure that every component of the stadium, including the synthetic playing surface, drainage system, floodlighting, electronic scoreboard, changing rooms and supporting facilities, was well maintained.
“The stadium’s certification by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) stands as one of the facility’s most significant achievements, reflecting the collective commitment of all stakeholders,” he said.
He added the certification, valid until July 2, 2029, affirmed the stadium’s compliance with international standards, qualifying it to host world-class hockey tournaments and live global broadcasts.
Abd Hamid said more importantly, the international recognition positioned Klang as an emerging hub for national and international hockey events.
“It will stimulate local economic activity, strengthen the sports tourism industry and further elevate Klang’s profile on the global sporting stage,” he said.
