SMK La Salle, Klang is holding a fundraising breakfast event next month to upgrade the school’s computer facilities.

Proceeds will go towards building a new computer laboratory and refurbishing its existing one, says school principal Franklin Xavier Francis Pereira.

The Breakfast Back to School initiative themed “Bridging the Digital Divide” targets upgrades for 30 computers at the school’s ageing computer lab.

“This is to ensure students have access to reliable technology for their studies.

“In addition, the initiative will support the establishment of a new computer lab equipped with 50 machines, significantly expanding the school’s digital learning capacity and providing students with improved access to information technology resources,” Pereira said.

Additional facilities were becoming increasingly important as schools prepare for a more technology-driven learning environment, he said.

“Plans are underway by the Education Ministry to introduce more digital learning materials into the school curriculum from 2027.

“Having adequate computer facilities will ensure our students are ready to benefit from these changes and are not left behind.”

Pereira added that the breakfast event which aimed to raise RM130,000 would also serve as a homecoming for former students and teachers, offering them a chance to reconnect with their alma mater while contributing to a meaningful cause.

“We will have good food, good company and an opportunity for old friends to relive cherished memories.

“It is an annual event organised by the parent-teacher association (PTA).

“We hope many of our old boys and former teachers will return to support the school,” said Pereira, who has been principal for the past year.

He also appealed to companies in the information technology sector to support the initiative through corporate sponsorships or contribute in kind.

“Besides financial assistance, the school is seeking help to upgrade its existing computers and replace outdated hardware to improve the performance of its current laboratory,” he said.

One of the tasks is rewiring to ensure the facility meets safety and technological standards.

“Corporate support will go a long way in helping us provide students with a conducive digital learning environment and better prepare them for a technologydriven future,” he added.

PTA chairman K. Jayandra said the fundraising event reflected the school’s commitment to providing students with better learning opportunities.

“We hope to bring together parents, alumni, community members, corporate partners and well-wishers who share our vision of strengthening digital education for our students.”

Jayandra said upgrading the school’s computer facilities would better equip students with essential digital skills while supporting future teaching methods.

“Our teachers believe improved computer facilities will help prepare students for the demands of the digital age.

“As learning becomes increasingly technology-based, enhanced access to computers can also reduce reliance on printed textbooks and help address the issue of heavy school bags,” he added.

Jayandra also encouraged residents in the neighbourhood to attend and contribute towards creating a more conducive, inclusive and future-ready learning environment at the school.

Breakfast Back to School will be held from 8.30am to noon on Aug 22 at Dataran Bro Cassian, SMK La Salle Klang.
