A SEPTUAGENARIAN who has been patching up roads around Tanjung Malim town was presented with a RM200 token of appreciation by the Sri Panchamoorthy Krishnar Temple.
Chee Siew Kuan, 70, also known as “Loh Mai Kai”, was touched by the gesture.
“I am thankful for the support,” he said.
“There have been those who have bought me food and donated money.
“These contributions motivate me to continue offering my services to the community.”
Temple chairman A. Sinna Bathumalai said Chee was seen collecting construction waste near the temple.
“We became aware of his work repairing potholes and offered a little aid to him,” he told StarMetro.
“At 70 years old, Chee still cares and has a voluntary spirit. We admire and respect that,” he added.
There was a report in August last year about him using construction debris to fill up potholes and that he has been doing it for nearly a decade.
Chee also helps to clean the drains, sweep the roads and weed near his home in Taman Muhibbah.
Sinna Bathumalai said he was prepared to provide the former labourer with more aid.
“We’ll liaise with the Tanjung Malim Community Volunteers and Welfare Team to see how we can help.”
Its founder, Yee Jee Kwong, said he helped Chee get monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department.
“We will try to arrange for food stuff and dry goods to be sent to his house regularly,” he said.
