Displays trace the development of the press in Malaya, from early publications such as the monthly Al-Imam magazine in 1906 to publications that documented key moments leading up to the nation’s independence.
Archival materials including old newspapers, manuscripts and photographs show how news reporting and writing have evolved over time.
There are reports, speeches and visual records dating back to the country’s early years, while highlights include Tunku’s own writings and reporting of his tenure as leader of the country.
Meanwhile, National Journalists Day was commemorated with a focus on those who had contributed to Malaysia’s publications, culminating in the main celebration in Penang.
Among those highlighted by Bernama are tools associated with the profession, alongside journalists, writers and literary figures and their contributions to the local press.
