MEASURES are being taken to address traffic congestion at three hotspots in Iskandar Puteri.
Mayor Datuk Hasrin Kamal Hashim said these areas are Persiaran Pulai Indah and Persiaran Pulai Mutiara, Jalan Gelang Patah-Ulu Choh and Jalan Skudai-Pontian.
“Traffic congestion, particularly around the Pulai and Gelang Patah corridors, is due to rapid development and high commuter volumes,” he told StarMetro.
“A meeting was held on April 24 with the relevant authorities following an increase in complaints.”
He said the first initiative was to close the junction near SMK Kangkar Pulai to improve safety and traffic flow at Persiaran Pulai Indah and Persiaran Pulai Mutiara.
Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) also wants construction of a new road to Taman Pulai Duta, to serve as an alternative route, to be expedited from six years to three.
Discussions have also included building an interchange at KM18 of the Second Link Crossing and opening a connecting road from Laman Setia to Nusa Bayu in the third quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, construction of a flyover connecting Taman Pulai Perdana to Taman Pulai Jaya will be speeded up.
Hasrin said the measures would reduce existing intersection conflicts and was part of conditions under the Traffic Impact Assessment required by MBIP and Public Works Department (JKR).
“We are also in the midst of implementing the traffic dispersal project at the roundabout to Taman Sri Pulai,” he added.
JKR is expected to present the plan for construction of a flyover from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai to Taman Pulai Perdana in a coming meeting.
Hasrin said additional initiatives being considered to ease congestion at hotspots included peak hour management by traffic police, limiting heavy vehicles and closure of certain roads.
