I RASTRUCTURE upgrades funded by a matching grant from Selangor government totalling RM1mil have enhanced Pantai Bumi Hijau in Sabak Bernam as an ecotourism destination.

State rural development, unity and consumer affairs committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail said the initiative was under “Program Gagasan Rumpun Selangor” (GRS).

“The state government allocated a matching grant of RM1mil to develop Pantai Bumi Hijau to ensure maximum comfort for visitors.

“Various facilities have been built including public toilets, shower facilities, sales booths, a systematic one-way path via a collaboration with Public Works Department (JKR) and parking sites for motorhomes,” he said during a press conference in conjunction with the Sabak Bernam edition of GRS, as reported by Bernama.

The programme was graced by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and his spouse Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz who engaged in recreational activities and an overnight stay in a caravan.

Rizam said the area’s tourism sector had attracted crowds every weekend, especially during school holidays.

“The number of tourists during peak hours can reach more than 3,000 from afternoon to night due to the uniqueness of this area,” he said.

Among activities offered are horse riding, family camping and flying fox challenges, while there is also seaside seating and a floating night market.

“Yayasan Hijarah Selangor (Kohijrah) is also planning a nature-themed resort in the mangrove forest for the international tourist market,” he said.

Sabak Bernam was being developed as an agropolitan city under the Sabak Bernam Economic Development Area (Sabda) project integrating the tourism, agriculture and fisheries sectors, he added.

The Sungai Air Tawar constituency is also being planned as a traditional village tourism centre.

“The plan for the resort and new facilities will emphasise environmental sustainability in line with the Raja Muda of Selangor’s recommendation,” Rizam said.
