A TOTAL of 40 hardcore poor (asnaf) individuals from 20 families around Johor Baru were taken shopping for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

They comprised mostly from single-parent households.

SWM Environment corporate affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the initiative was aimed at spreading festive cheer to the less fortunate.

“Each beneficiary received more than RM200 to shop for festive attire and household items.

“They were assisted by about 10 volunteers from SWM Environment and the Larkin assemblyman’s service centre,” he said in a statement.

Norlisam added that the shopping trip concluded with a breaking of fast with Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development and cooperatives committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, who is also Larkin assemblyman.

He added that the SWM Kasih Senyum Syawal initiative also extended to Kulai, where 11 hardcore poor families received food boxes and household necessities to help them prepare for the festive season.

“Over the past decade, we have carried out more than 120 initiatives across Johor through the SWM Kasih entity.

“These include food aid, welfare support, festive contributions, education and disaster relief, benefiting nearly 15,000 families statewide.” — By UMESH RAVIKUMAR
