PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has directed telcos to closely monitor networks and respond swiftly to any disruptions or drop in service quality during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Since early March 2026, MCMC said telcos nationwide have performed 866 temporary network enhancement initiatives to support increased usage during the upcoming festive season.
"This effort is carried out to ensure the public continues to enjoy smooth and stable communication services, particularly for making calls, sending messages, surfing the Internet, communicating via video, and accessing emergency assistance when needed," MCMC said in a statement today (March 19).
The initiatives include 774 network optimisation works to increase coverage quality and capacity, 27 activation and modernisation of 5G networks, along with 21 temporary solutions such as the deployment Portable Base Transceiver Station (PBTS), Cellular on Wheel (CoW) and Mobile Communications Vehicle (MCV) to increase coverage support at high-traffic areas, among others.
MCMC said these initiatives target areas expected to experience heavy network usage, such as major highways, R&R stops, tourist spots, and crowded locations during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
MCMC added that it will also perform on-site monitoring duties as needed at critical and high-traffic locations.
The public are advised to contact their service providers if they experience any network-related issues. Complaints can also be submitted via MCMC’s official portal.
