RM12,000 fines in Klang for business licence, five-foot-way offences

A VENDOR has been fined for selling vegetables at a five-foot-way at Jalan Pos Baru, Klang.

Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said although the trader had a business licence, the city council issued him a RM1,000 fine for goods displayed outside the shop premises.

The practice is classified as obstructing public walkways.

“Selling vegetables or other items on a five-foot-way without approval is not allowed.

“Our men ordered the trader to move the produce into the shop, as stated in MBDK’s Trade, Business and Industry Licensing By-laws 2007,” said Norfiza.

She said MBDK via its Health Department prioritised cleanliness, as unauthorised trading and unmonitored stalls could create waste and hygiene issues.

“MBDK wants to control food safety by ensuring vendors adhere to hygienic standards.

“We will also conduct checks at restaurants off Persiaran Raja Muda Musa for using walkways or back lanes as extended kitchen areas.

“Stricter enforcement is now in place to prioritise pedestrian safety and accessibility,” she added.

Norfiza said the joint operation at Jalan Pos Baru and Lorong Raja Hassan was carried out by officers from the MBDK Licensing, Health and Enforcement departments.

Shops that failed to produce business licences or permits for multiple advertisements were issued fines ranging from RM1,000 to RM4,000, totalling RM11,000.
