Parked buses a hazard in Setapak

Buses parked along Jalan Ayer Jerneh under the Duke Highway taking up space along the road in Setapak.

Tour buses illegally parked along Jalan Ayer Jerneh in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, are taking up road space and endangering motorists.

Kampung Baru Air Panas village chief Jay Boon Kiat said he had received complaints from residents about the issue.

“People are unable to see oncoming traffic as the buses are parked close to junctions.

“Buses parked near SMK Tinggi Setapak cause traffic congestion when parents pick up their children from school.

“Some buses park under the Duke Highway where visibility is poor,” he said, adding that several minor collisions have occurred in the area.

Jay said complaints had been lodged with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) via Adu@KL and Setiawangsa Federal Territories Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP) chairman Datuk Afdlin Shauki Aksan, with no action taken so far.

During a site visit, five buses were observed parked along Jalan Ayer Jerneh on both sides of the road.

Village advisor Andre Lai urged bus owners to remove their vehicles immediately.

“They pose a clear safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists,” he said.

DBKL had not responded to queries on the matter from StarMetro at press time.
