Lion dance, firecrackers light up Puchong apartment

Residents at an apartment in Puchong, Selangor, were treated to a Chinese New Year celebration complete with prancing lions, drums, firecrackers and distribution of mandarin oranges to symbolise prosperity and good fortune.

The event was organised by residents of Saraka Apartment in Taman Wawasan.

Resident Micheale See, 45, said they were happy to be able to organise the event, the first Chinese New Year celebration for the apartment community.

She said preparations began as early as dawn, with the committee completing decorations at the apartment hall.

“It is a blessing to be spending time and celebrating the festivities with our neighbours,” she said.

Noorazman Sabudin, 58, who attended dressed in a bright red samfu, said he was pleased to participate and mingle with neighbours of different backgrounds.

In his 25 years at Saraka Apartment, he said, this was the first time such a celebration had been organised collectively.

Noorazman said the event was important as it allowed residents to get to know one another better and encouraged closer ties.

Saraka Apartment management committee chairman Vigness Rao said the organising committee played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success.

He said the event would not have been possible without proper planning and strong participation from residents.

Vigness added that the management committee hoped to continue organising similar celebrations to maintain community ties.

Senior citizens, who make up the majority of residents, were also presented with souvenirs during the event.

Che Onn Sheikh Mohammad Osman, 77, who lives at the apartment with his daughter, said he was happy to receive his gift.

He hopes more celebrations will be held for other festive occasions.
