THE heavy rain did not extinguish the people’s passion for their favourite fast-food chain as they thronged a Chinese New Year (CNY) open house in Danau Kota, Setapak.

It signified a strong start for McDonald’s Malaysia as it celebrated the upcoming Year of the Fire Horse at 13 locations nationwide.

Its senior director and chief marketing officer Chin Mei Lee said the event was expanded to 13 locations this year (from three in 2025) following overwhelming support from its customers.

“On Feb 7 itself we were already holding an open house at McDonald’s Danau Kota in Kuala Lumpur, McDonald’s Jalan Tun Perak in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, and McDonald’s Mount Austin in Johor Baru, Johor.

“This is also an extension of our ‘Prosperity Kembali, Lebih Beerti’ campaign which was launched in November last year,” she said at the event held in the capital.

Chin said the open house reflected McDonald’s Malaysia’s perspective on prosperity which is about shared moments.

“McDonald’s believes that prosperity is not only about what you have, but also who you have.

“It is about the moments you spend with the people who matter to you, and the joy and happiness that come together.

“We urge Malaysians to cherish every single moment you have with the people around you.

“We hope that this will be a year full of optimism and new energy,” said Chin.

She said open houses were a good way for McDonald’s Malaysia to give back to the community, in line with its belief in feeding and fostering communities.

“In fact, we hold open houses for every key festive celebration such as CNY, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai and Deepavali.

“Celebrating multicultural festivals is very important for us.

“Festivals are only one of our key pillars.

“We are conducting more than 10,000 initiatives a year to give back to various communities, be it youths, the elderly or frontliners.”

Besides getting a free Prosperity Burger meal, Danau Kota open house attendees were also entertained by cultural performances such as diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) and a lion dance.

Several local artistes such as Joey Leong made an appearance.

Festive activities, games, lion dances and the McDonald’s mascots are a big part of the event.

About 2,000 free Prosperity Burger meals are expected to be distributed at each event.

With every Prosperity Burger meal purchased, customers will receive a “Fu Pow” with a chance to win rewards, including exclusive collectible Prosperity Fu-charms and a RM888 cash prize.

The open house at Danau Kota was attended by McDonald’s Malaysia senior vice-president and chief impact officer Melati Abdul Hai, vice-president and chief restaurant officer Zaid Hasman and special projects senior director Felina Lim.
