POPULAR singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin is the first owner and brand ambassador of the Great Wall Motor (GWM) Wey G9 in Malaysia.
She was presented with a mock key during the vehicle’s launch at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Priced at RM269,800, the Wey G9 is locally assembled and positioned as the country’s first Chinese luxury new energy multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
Siti said the vehicle was suitable for her family’s lifestyle and safety needs.
“The vehicle is family-centric and that is important to me as a mother of two young children.
“It has good safety features, which gives me peace of mind when travelling with my family,” she said.
She also performed two of her popular numbers at the event.
The event was attended by Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin, GWM International vice-president James Yang, GWM chief engineer of high-voltage systems Dr Hu Xin and GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah.
Roslan said the Wey G9 marked a significant milestone in the brand’s new energy push in Malaysia.
He said GWM was committed to establishing long-term roots in the country.
“This car is also the first Chinese luxury new energy plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) MPV to be assembled locally.
“The Wey G9 reflects GWM’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing and regional export hub for Asean,” he said.
The WEY brand, named after GWM founder and chairman Jack Wey, represents the company’s highest standards in safety, quality and intelligent mobility, said Yang in a pre-recorded video.

“The company was built on the core belief of respecting the legacy of the automotive industry and its customers.
“The Wey G9 is designed to be first class for all.
“Whether it is visible design or invisible technical architecture, we never cut corners,” he said.
“We have also equipped the Wey G9 with the world’s leading Hi4 intelligent hybrid four-wheel-drive system, offering four-wheel-drive performance with two-wheel-drive efficiency.
“Whether on slippery roads or mountain trips, it provides more stable protection for the whole family while ensuring high efficiency in daily driving.
“Many users call it a new ‘species’ of MPV, and GWM’s dedication has been validated in China – on average, one in every five MPVs is a Wey G9,” said Yang.
“This trust from thousands of families gives us confidence,” he added.
Hu genuinely believes in the product, having witnessed its development first-hand.
“On highways, it reduces speed ratios so the engine runs in its optimal low energy consumption range – smooth, seamless and smart,” she said.
“That is the feeling the Wey G9 will deliver to customers,” she added.
According to Hu, the Hi4 PHEV system in the Wey G9 is designed to eliminate the usual compromises between electric efficiency and long-distance usability.
“It offers up to 170km of pure electric driving for quiet and efficient daily commuting, while providing a total driving range of more than 1,000km for longer journeys.
“Even when battery levels are low, fuel consumption remains efficient at 6.2 litres per 100km, supported by intelligent energy management and seamless switching between Series and Parallel Hybrid modes.
“This ensures predictable efficiency in real-world Malaysian driving conditions,” Hu said.
