ALL SWM Environment Sdn Bhd operational branches throughout Johor are on standby to provide early assistance in the event of floods.

Corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the waste management company had initiated early preparations to ensure services remained uninterrupted, particularly in flood-prone areas throughout the northeast monsoon season.

“We will make sure that drainage cleaning services across Johor’s 15 local council jurisdictions are carried out according to schedule to prevent blockages that could lead to flooding.

“This effort aligns with the state government’s Ops Longkang initiative, which aims to ensure that drainage systems function efficiently and reduce the risk of flooding,” he told StarMetro.

He added that the company would continue to work closely with the state government, local councils and Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) in implementing flood preparedness operations.

“The collaboration also covers preparations at temporary evacuation centres, including ensuring there are enough wheelie bins and that waste collection is carried out on schedule.

“This is to ensure that the centres remain clean, safe and comfortable for flood victims,” he said.

He added that assets had been prepared for deployment in flood relief efforts and post-flood clean-up operations, subject to requests and coordination by the authorities.

“These include water jet lorries, ultra-whack vehicles, roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) trucks, suction lorries and backhoes.”

In March, SWM Environment collected over 300 metric tonnes of solid waste during its flood cleanup operations across Johor.

Mohd Norlisam also highlighted the importance of proper wheelie bin management during the rainy season to prevent bins from collecting rainwater, which could disrupt solid waste collection operations.

He advised residents and business owners to keep their wheelie bins covered and avoid placing them in areas prone to water accumulation.

“Owners are encouraged to apply for free replacement of damaged or lost wheelie bins to avoid problems during the rainy season.”

Applications can be submitted via www.swmenvironment.com along with a copy of the police report.
