AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) intensified its enforcement operations by conducting a series of back-to-back inspections targeting heavy vehicle obstruction, unlicensed business activities and non-compliant food handling in several neighbourhoods and commercial areas.

The department’s “Ops Terjah: Kenderaan Berat” focused on illegal parking and obstructions caused by heavy vehicles in residential areas.

Checks were conducted at Pandan Perdana, Taman Kosas, Ampang Indah, Kampung Tasek Tambahan and Taman Melawati.

During the operation, 46 compounds were issued under Section 48(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 for heavy vehicles causing public obstruction.

Section 48(1) states that if a driver leaves their vehicle on the road in a way that blocks, inconveniences or puts other road users in danger, he can be charged with an offence.

Those found guilty can be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000, jailed for at least one year, or both.

“This action is necessary to ensure neighbourhood roads remain safe, accessible and free from hazards that can affect road users and emergency response,” MPAJ said in a press statement.

Another enforcement round targeted compliance among business operators, involving advertising signage, food establishments and general trade regulations.

The checks resulted in 18 inspections, eight seizures and 10 compounds issued.

The operation, which also targeted beauty and wellness premises, saw action taken under Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.

Local by-laws breached included Beauty and Health Care Centre By-laws 2013, Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing By-laws 2007 and Food Establishment Licensing By-laws 2007.

“Maintaining orderly, hygienic and legally compliant commercial activity is key to building a safe and liveable urban environment,” said MPAJ.

A third operation centred on hawker activity, trade licensing and food handling compliance.

MPAJ recorded eight inspections and six seizures, involving premises operating without permission or utilising public spaces without approval.

Complaints or feedback can be channelled through the Public Complaints Management System (Sispaa) MPAJ or the council’s toll-free line at 1-800-22-8100.
