ISLAND communities across Johor received essential assistance packages as part of a joint initiative to strengthen preparedness during the northeast monsoon season.

The Monsoon Relief: Waves of Support programme, a collaboration between Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp) and Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor (YSIJ), benefitted 235 recipients, including families and students across five islands.

Yayasan JCorp chief executive officer Zaidatul Zurita Abdul Rahman said the programme was built on the success of last year’s initiative.

“Our team contributed hygiene kits, cash assistance and school supply vouchers, while YSIJ provided essential food items to families in Pulau Sibu, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Besar, Pulau Pemanggil and Pulau Aur,” Zaidatul Zurita said in a statement.

“This joint effort aims to ease the burden of residents and strengthen community preparedness ahead of the monsoon season,” she added.

In conjunction with the relief programme, Yayasan JCorp also treated 16 pupils from SK Pulau Sibu to a special shopping trip at a supermarket in Mersing, to help them prepare for the new school year.

“Although these island communities are far across the sea, they are always in our thoughts and care,” she said while acknowledging the support of Mersing District Office for the programme.

Zaidatul Zurita said the foundation was grateful for the continued partnership with YSIJ, which reflected their shared mission to uplift Johoreans in need and ensure no community was left behind.

She said in 2024, both organisations worked together under the Monsoon Relief initiative to support patients at Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Baru, providing essential care items to mothers, newborn, children and the elderly.

“This year, our partnership expanded through the Smart Farming Greenhouse Project at SMK Buloh Kasap in Segamat and SMK Seri Medan in Batu Pahat, which promotes sustainable agriculture and youth empowerment through technology-driven farming,” she said.

“Beyond immediate relief, our joint initiatives aim to create lasting impact by empowering communities through education, sustainability and social development.”
