Temporary housing to be provided to Taman United flat evacuees

TEMPORARY homes will be provided for residents of Taman United flats, Kuala Lumpur, following the collapse of a retaining wall here earlier this week.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustaf,a said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would make necessary arrangements for residents ordered to vacate.

“DBKL will make sure those who need temporary housing will be offered units.

“For now, residents of 52 units of Block C are not allowed back home,” she said after a site visit on Sunday (Nov 30).

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud said remedial slope works were expected to continue until Dec 31.

“Debris clearing should be completed within the next few days, then slope works can begin.

“We will also need to wait for the appointed consultant to complete their safety assessment of the slope.

“Hopefully, residents can move back in on Jan 1, 2026, provided it is safe,” he said, adding the slope fell under DBKL’s jurisdiction.

The area is on high alert after a retaining wall behind the flats in Kuala Lumpur collapsed on Nov 24, after hours of heavy rain the night before.

The authorities subsequently ordered residents from 104 units on two blocks to vacate until further notice to allow repairs to the wall and slope.

An evacuation centre was opened at Sri Petaling Community Centre to house affected homeowners.

DBKL, in a statement, on Wednesday (Nov 26), said a consultant had been appointed to carry out a geotechnical assessment on the slope.

On a separate issue, Dr Zaliha said DBKL had identified 15 flooding hotspot locations in Kuala Lumpur.

She said City Hall would coordinate with various agencies to ensure a rapid response in the event of an emergency.
