SHAH ALAM: Selangor has proposed a RM3.23bil budget for 2026, under the theme Selangor Juara, Rakyat Sejahtera (Selangor Champions, People Prosper).
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari it would be a deficit budget, with the projected state revenue of RM2.8bil against the estimated expenditure of RM3.23bil.
Of this amount, RM1.8bil or 57.6% is allocated for Operating Expenditure, while RM1.37bil or 42.4% is allocated for Development Expenditure, he said when tabling the budget at the Selangor State Assembly today (Nov 14).
“To ensure the success of the Selangor budget 2026, the administration has outlined six key commitments.
“These are: strengthening state revenue and enhancing economic opportunities for the people; governance reform to uplift the nation; shaping education to design the future; excellence in arts and culture and youth empowerment; positioning Selangor as a caring state; and ensuring environmental sustainability and outstanding infrastructure,” he said.
Among the key points in the budget include an allocation of RM55mil for a mega road resurfacing programme, and RM54.34mil to strengthen flood mitigation initiatives in major river basins, with the addition of 17 new projects.
The major river basins involved are Sungai Klang (RM16.92mil), Sungai Langat (RM16.51mil), Sungai Selangor (RM5.74mil), Sungai Buloh (RM1mil), and Sungai Bernam and Sungai Kapar Besar (RM2.8mil).
“Primary emphasis is placed on the Klang and Langat river basins, which are currently experiencing rapid development, leading to increased surface water flow. This has resulted in frequent and severe flash floods as well as monsoon floods,” he said.
Amirudin also announced that Selangor would continue the School Assistance Programme next year through an allocation of RM30mil.
He said the allocation involves six types of schools such as Sekolah Rendah Agama, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil, Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan, Chinese private secondary schools, and missionary schools.
The state government has allocated RM40mil to provide quality public healthcare access to the people of Selangor, particularly the low- and middle-income groups, in 2026.
The Iltizam Selangor Sihat (ISS) programme, which has proven to have a positive impact on the well-being of the people, will receive an allocation of RM20mil.
Other incentives in the budget 2026 include an allowance of RM1,500 per month for tertiary students undergoing industrial training at any Selangor government agency or subsidiary, starting next year.
Amirudin said the state government will also expand the implementation of the MamaKerja Initiative by offering cash assistance of RM100 per month for one year, specifically for children aged six and below.
This initiative is expected to benefit 2,166 children across Selangor, in line with the targeted recipient group that has been identified.
The budget is expected to be debated next week.
