A woman who changed her mind about a hair removal package and never used the service, has been awarded a full refund.

The 24-year-old working in Singapore signed a contract for vellus hair removal on her arms and legs at an aesthetic clinic in Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Baru.

“I was attracted to the promotional package for unlimited treatment sessions over five years,’’ said Chong Shi Ting when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal.

The store manager said she signed the contract and paid RM5,000 using a 24-month instalment plan offered by her credit card company, on Aug 3.

She set her first appointment for Aug 17.

However, after getting home and reading negative customer reviews online about the clinic, she changed her mind.

“I sent messages to the outlet on the same day to cancel the contract and ask for a refund,” said Chong, adding that the company only responded on Sept 11 to ask for her bank account number for the refund.

The claimant, however, said the company wanted to deduct RM1,000 from the RM5,000 – RM500 as staff commission and RM500 as processing fee.

Chong refused as she had not attended even a single treatment session.

She decided to file a case with the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal, asking for a full refund.

Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent to refund RM5,000 within two weeks.
