THE GOAL of attracting eight million tourists to Selangor in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) is achievable, says state local government and tourism committee chairman Ng Suee Lim.
Ng said as of June this year, the number of tourists to Selangor has reached 4.14 million or 52% of the target.
"VSY 2025 will also be extended until next year, probably with a different theme like 'Selangor Kan Ada', to also support the country's tourism promotions in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026," he said during the 88th anniversary luncheon of SKGV Charity Home at Chin Woo Stadium here on Sunday (Oct 19).
He also said the state is pushing for some local Chinese foods such as Klang bak kut teh, Hokkien mee and chai kuih (Teochew chives dumplings) to be listed as heritage food to further promote the state's tourism.
"I particularly like Klang Hokkien mee, and I think it is not promoted as extensively as bak kut teh. People won't immediately think of Hokkien mee when they visit Klang.
"Traditional food is one of the keys to attracting tourists. I really hope that the traditional food of every race can be listed as heritage food," he said, adding that Kajang satay has also recently been declared a heritage food.
