KLANG: The Visit Selangor Year 2025 may be extended up to the end of next year due to its "immense success", says state Government and Tourism Committee Chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim.
He said 2026 was a significant year for Selangor as it was the state ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s silver jubilee reign celebrations, on top of the state hosting the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
“Besides increasing the number of tourists coming into the state, we also want to be in tandem with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which has already been announced.
“Since many things are happening in Selangor next year, it is only apt that we extend the Visit Selangor Year,’’ said Ng when contacted.
According to Ng, the Visit Selangor Year 2025 is a thumping success with more than four million foreign visitors coming to the state from January to date.
He said the top five groups that visited Selangor were from China, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and India.
Ng said the Chinese tourists’ favourite activities included feasting on durians, shopping and visiting places such as Pulau Ketam in Klang.
“The Singaporeans and Indonesians enjoyed visiting places such as Sunway Lagoon, the coastal areas in north Selangor, Batu Caves, as well as Pulau Ketam in Klang and the Mah Meri Village in Carey Island,’’ he said.
He added that Japanese tourists like visiting the fireflies in Kuala Selangor and visiting their relatives living and working in the state.
“As for the Indians, besides visiting places like Sunway Lagoon and Batu Caves, they also booked hotels in Selangor and held grand lavish weddings here with guests flying in from their country,’’ he added.
He said Selangor was aiming at attracting more visitors from Taiwan and Australia currently and was lining up many more attractions and activities to lure in more tourists.
“We hope to receive an estimated eight million tourists by the end of this year,’’ said Ng.
