WOMEN and men clad in sarong with outfits in a plethora of colours and styles, coupled with vibrant music performances and cultural groups, brought to life an annual extravaganza held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

“Keretapi Sarong” (Sarong Train) is an event that celebrates the spirit of muhibbah as people from all walks of life come together while highlighting the traditional garment.

The ninth edition of the festivities saw joyful flash mob-style events happening in a number of areas around the country.

In the Klang Valley, participants adorned with sarong commuted on rail transport to The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur.

Their clothing comprised a mix of traditional outfits, such as baju kebaya, baju kurung, baju melayu and saree, or modern garb such as blouses paired with jeans and a sarong drape.

The event, themed “Serumpun” as a symbol of Asean unity, also saw gatherings in Johor Baru, Johor; Ipoh, Perak; Pasir Mas, Kelantan; Kuantan, Pahang and Sungai Petani, Kedah.

The event in Kuantan was made merrier with music performances and a group of people cycling down the street in vintage bicycles, while drums led the patriotic beat in Sungai Petani.

Don’t worry if you missed out on the fun, as Kuala Lumpur will host another event tomorrow, with Malaysia Sarong Music Run combining running, sampling of Malaysian dishes and music.
