Puchong MCA is calling for Selangor government and elected representatives to work together in resolving traffic issues in Seri Kembangan New Village.

Puchong MCA Public Complaints bureau head Ivan Tan said the issue had been exacerbated by transfer of state land for a commercial project in 1999, which is still being questioned by some parties.

The land in question is a 0.28ha plot at Jalan SK10/3 that used to be an open-air carpark.

The hoarding is up, drawing the ire of surrounding residents and businesses about the loss of parking space in the already congested area.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has been said to have approved a three-storey commercial development at the site.

Explaining the situation in a social media post, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said the then state government acquired the land from a private owner in 1991 to turn it into a public carpark.

The plot was one of six owned by Selangor government, measuring in total 3.24ha, that was transferred to a developer in 1999.

The deal also involved a modern market complex that has yet to kick off.

Wong said the developer paid RM424,601.16 in premium to facilitate the transfer of all six parcels under its name.

“However, the developer went bust in 2010, leaving three plots totalling 0.73ha undeveloped.”

This included the carpark plot that was auctioned in 2011, she added.

Tan, during a press conference in the area last Saturday, said the state had put a caveat on the three remaining plots after they changed hands following the auction.

“The new owner brought the matter to court, but the case was settled out of court.

“Under the agreement, the new owner had to pay RM6mil and return one plot to the state, while two others remained with them.

“One of the two plots was the carpark,” he elaborated.

Also present at the press conference were Puchong MCA chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong and former Serdang MP Datuk Yap Pian Hon.

Tan said the state government and elected representatives should resolve parking problems in the area.

StarMetro had previously reported on the plight of nearby businesses, including market traders, following the closure of the open-air carpark.

The market traders were relocated from Pasar Awam SK10 to Jalan SK6/1, which is awaiting redevelopment.

Another issue raised by traders was the delay in rebuilding the public market.

MBSJ said in a media statement that work was expected to start early next year, and the new public market project, costing RM12mil, would take 24 months to complete.
