Klang folk mark nation’s independence with community event

IN A show of patriotism, Teluk Pulai Residents Association (TPRA) in Klang celebrated National Day with a community event that involved the flutter of flags and a flurry of rubbish clearing.

The event kicked off with TPRA chairman Santokh Singh Gurdev Singh hoisting the Jalur Gemilang as residents sang the national anthem followed by patriotic songs such as Tanggal 31 Ogos and Jalur Gemilang in front of the association’s premises.

“This event is to encourage residents to display the Jalur Gemilang and to express pride in Malaysia’s hard-won freedom as well as encourage unity across all communities,” he said as TPRA members went around handing out flags.

The members then took part in a clean-up in line with Earth Warriors Day, picking up rubbish along Lebuh Sembilang Dua and near the morning market at Lorong Sepat 3.

Resident Norita Abdul Rashid said the National Day celebration was meaningful as it fostered cooperation and collective sense of responsibility.

TPRA treasurer Andy Tan said cleaning up the neighbourhood together raised environmental awareness and strengthened community bonds.

Santokh said committee members and residents had also come together to adorn TPRA’s office entrance with the Jalur Gemilang.
