SWM Environment rolls out fleet of EVs to promote sustainability

SWM Environment has rolled out a new fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) in a move to enhance its services and promote sustainability ahead of World Tourism Day and the World Tourism Conference that will be held here, next month.

Its corporate manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the initiative was aimed at strengthening cleanliness and environmental efforts, particularly in the historic city’s key tourist hotspots.

“This initiative includes deploying EVs for waste collection and public cleaning services in holiday destinations here.

"SWM Environment will also utilise electric three-wheeled motorcycles in tourism areas around Bandar Hilir as part of our commitment to eco-friendly vehicles,” he said on Sunday (August 31).

He said that the introduction of EVs would not only reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions but also cut fuel costs and boost efficiency in high-traffic areas.

“The quieter, emission-free vehicles are better suited for navigating crowded streets, creating a cleaner and more pleasant environment for both tourists and locals,” he added.

The initiative was recently launched by the CEO of SWM Environment, Khalid Mohamed during a brief ceremony in Bandar Hilir, here.

The event also saw the unveiling of a new mini compactor vehicle designed specifically for waste collection in the city’s busy streets.
