Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has launched its latest placemaking project, Durian Hub@Subang Jaya, at Dataran Millennium SS13.

The hub, occupying a 196m by 38m space, was launched by Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali and Subang Jaya deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Fairuz Jaafar.

In a media statement, MBSJ’s Corporate and Strategic Management Department said: “It is a strategic initiative by MBSJ to upgrade an abandoned green space into a vibrant, open business hub that is conducive, attractive and economically viable.

“The placemaking project also introduces the Smart Truck Site facility – a family-friendly atmosphere which serves as a hub for local community activities.”

Dataran Millennium SS13 comprises three main activity zones, namely food truck/hawker, car-boot sale and durian hub, with the latter operational daily since June with six durian traders.

The site has parking facilities for visitors’ convenience.

The food truck site is open from 4pm to midnight, Thursday to Sunday, with added performances by local buskers.

The “Good Weekend Club” car-boot sale site provides business opportunities for 30 vendors weekly from 6pm to midnight, Thursday to Sunday.

MBSJ said the car-boot site initiative had proven popular among youths.

It has been recognised as one of the most active car-boot sale sites in the Klang Valley, offering competitive and sustainable side income opportunities, the statement read.

“In line with MBSJ’s aspiration for a sustainable and liveable city, a polystyrene-free campaign was also introduced under the city council’s green initiatives.

“The campaign aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of using polystyrene containers and to encourage more eco-friendly business practices.”

The city council added that communities from Subang Jaya and all surrounding areas were welcome to support and enliven activities being held at Dataran Millennium SS13.
