SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) played host to the ninth leg of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 and Para Sukma 2026 Torch Run Tour during the Subang Jaya Car-Free Day at Subang Parade, in Selangor.
The event drew a strong official presence, including Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi and Sukma Secretariat chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi.
Also present were Seri Serdang assemblyman and Selangor contingent chief Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi, Selangor Sports Council (MSN) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi, then Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim and deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali.
They were joined by MBSJ senior management, councillors, agency partners and local residents.
The Torch Run Tour spanned all 12 local authorities across Selangor, with MBSJ selected as the ninth stop.
Around 1,000 participants took part in the 4.6km torch relay, bringing together athletes, government bodies, educational institutions, strategic partners and residents in a show of sportsmanship, unity and public support for the upcoming national games.
The July car‑free day drew over 3,000 visitors who participated in lifestyle and recreational activities.
These included a netball shootout, children’s colouring contest, street football, sepak raga, aerobics, eco-free market, free health screenings and plant giveaways.
In a statement, MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department said the joint staging of the event
reflected “the synergy between sports development, community well-being and urban sustainability”.
MBSJ, the adoptive sponsor for three sporting disciplines – ping pong, sepak takraw and kabaddi – contributed RM20,000 to each team to support their preparations for the games.
The city council said the initiative highlighted its dedication to sport and athlete empowerment.
Selangor will host the 22nd Sukma from Aug 15 to 24, followed by Para Sukma from Sept 5 to 14.
