Air Selangor: Old pump being replaced with new unit

ONGOING water disruption over the past several days at Seputeh Heights in Taman Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur, has left residents frustrated and helpless.

They said water supply had not been restored despite numerous complaints via different platforms to Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) since June 16.

A 27-year-old resident, identified only as Lee, said she first complained to Air Selangor on June 16 when her kitchen taps went dry.

“However, I learned via SMS that my complaint was ‘dibatalkan’ (cancelled) as they were already addressing the problem.

“I made two other complaints on June 17 and 18 when the water supply did not resume.

“On June 18, Air Selangor contractors came to check, but we were not told what the problem was,” she said, adding that her neighbours faced similar issues.

“My neighbour told me that water resumed on June 19 midnight and it managed to fill up the house water tank,” said Lee.

“However, water supply was again disrupted later that morning.

“This issue should have been resolved within 24 hours, but in this case, it has been more than four days,” she said, adding that the residents should be informed of the cause of the disruption.

Bukit Bintang Federal Territory Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) sub-zone 4 chairman Cynthia Hor said residents were angry because the status reflected in the Air Selangor mobile application was incorrect as it showed that water supply had been restored.

“During a site visit with Air Selangor representatives, I was told that multiple investigation and restoration works were ongoing.

“Air Selangor should improve its communication and I suggest the company check on the pipes in the area to prevent such incidents in the future,” she said.

In response, Air Selangor, in a statement yesterday, said the water supply disruption at Seputeh Heights occurred due to a drop in the water level at the tower reservoir.

“Following a thorough inspection, the main cause has been identified as the reduced efficiency of the existing pump, which has limited its capability.

“To address this, we are currently replacing the old pump with a new unit to meet the area’s water demand, while also mobilising water tankers to the affected area,” said Air Selangor.

It added that water supply was expected to be fully restored this morning.
