Rural pupils in Kulai to acquire digital skills via scheme

Pupils and teachers of SK Sayong Pinang gather with representatives from Yayasan JCorp, ICP Piles and the Johor Education Department to celebrate the launch of the DigiLit initiative.

SIXTY-FIVE pupils from SK Sayong Pinang in Kulai are set to benefit from a special initiative by Johor Corporation Foundation (Yayasan JCorp) to equip rural pupils with essential digital skills.

Yayasan JCorp chief executive officer Datuk Mizan Yahya said the initiative, dubbed DigiLit, aims to ensure no one was left behind.

“Digital literacy is no longer an option, but a necessity.

“Through initiatives such as DigiLit, we aim to ensure that pupils, regardless of background or location, are equipped with essential digital skills that will enable them to thrive in the future,” he said in a statement.

According to Mizan, the initiative provided early exposure to foundational digital competencies, including computer usage, Internet navigation and online safety.

“These skills form an important base for pupils to participate confidently in an increasingly digital learning environment and prepare for future workplace demands,” he said.

Mizan said the programme was carried out in collaboration with Industrial Concrete Products Sdn Bhd (ICP Piles) and the Johor Education Department.

“Building on digital literacy initiatives introduced in previous years, DigiLit is further strengthened through strategic collaboration with ICP Piles.

“This initiative reflects a sustained commitment to creating inclusive, conducive and future-ready learning environments, particularly for students in rural communities,” he highlighted.

He said that ICP Piles contributed a smartboard and tech-skill workshops to support the enhancements to the school’s digital learning facilities.

He added that the initiative went beyond access to technology, as it also focused on building confidence and digital literacy readiness among pupils.

“By strengthening their digital exposure at an early stage, we are helping to reduce the technology gap and ensure that pupils in rural areas are not left behind in a rapidly evolving digital landscape,” said Mizan.
