ABOUT 100 people took part in a World Water Day celebration held at Mydin hypermarket in Meru Raya, Ipoh, Perak.
The event, organised by Persatuan Suara Air Kinta Perak (PSAKP), aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving water sources.
It brought together representatives from Taman Rishah and Taman Chemor Idaman, teachers and students from various schools, as well as Global Environment Centre River Care Programme manager Dr K. Kalithasan.
During the event, speakers gave talks on water preservation initiatives and water pollution concerns.
Taman Rishah Residents Association chairman B. Jayaprakash spoke about flooding in his area, while Taman Chemor Idaman Rukun Tetangga chairman Karim Din Mohd Ismail spoke about an initiative to check the water quality of Sungai Meru annually.
In her speech, PSAKP founder M. Malliga reiterated the importance of water and the need to care for rivers and other water sources.
“It is our shared responsibility and collective action to protect our water for future generations.
“With strong support from the community, families and schools, we can ensure the long-term water security in Perak and beyond.
“We are determined to bring about impactful changes,” she added.
The event also featured a silambam performance by Kelab Silambam Arima, and a colouring contest.
