Top SPM scorers in Teluk Intan receive RM251,000 in study aid

A total of RM251,000 in financial aid was presented to 256 students with outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results in the Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency by its MP Nga Kor Ming (pic).

The aid was disbursed in two ceremonies at SMJK San Min.

Nga said the initiative had been carried out for four consecutive years starting from 2023 by the Teluk Intan DAP parliamentary service centre.

He said the financial assistance was meant to lighten the burden on students and their families as they continued their studies at public or private institutions of higher education.

“It is hoped that this recognition will inspire Teluk Intan’s younger generation to excel in their studies,” he said.

Nga, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, first presented RM125,000 to 77 students.

This included RM3,000 each for four students who scored 11As, RM2,000 each for 27 students who obtained 10As, and RM1,500 each for 36 students who scored 9As.

A further RM500 each was also awarded to 10 students who showed significant improvement in last year’s SPM examination.

In a separate ceremony, Nga presented RM111,600 to 179 students who performed well in the Chinese language paper in last year’s SPM examination.

He said the move was aimed at encouraging more SPM candidates to sit for the paper.

A sum of RM1,200 was also given to each of the 12 selected teachers who had contributed to the students’ success.

Also present at the ceremony was Perak domestic trade, cooperatives, consumer affairs and Chinese new villages committee chairman Woo Kah Leong.

On the message he hoped to convey through the gesture, Nga said education should be emphasised as the foundation of national development, especially for the younger generation who would one day become leaders of the nation and society.

“For this reason, it is important for the future generation to be dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge.

“This is so that they may cultivate noble values in order to ensure unity and harmony in our multiracial society,” he said.
