Archdiocese of KL denies fake ‘financial aid’ image

PETALING JAYA: The Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur has dismissed as false a social media image purportedly linked to a financial aid programme, warning the public against spreading unverified information.

Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur chancellor Rev Fr Dr Clarence Devadass said the image circulating online did not represent genuine or verified information.

“We hereby confirm that the image in question is false and does not represent genuine or verified information,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 26).

The notice referred to an image promoting a purported “Bantuan Dana DAP Malaysia” scheme carrying religious imagery.

Clarence said misleading content could create unnecessary confusion and undermine public trust.

“We strongly urge members of the public to exercise caution when encountering unverified material online.

"Please refrain from sharing or amplifying this image, as doing so contributes to the spread of misinformation,” he said.

He also urged the public to rely solely on official channels for updates and announcements.

“We encourage everyone to rely exclusively on official channels for updates and information.

"Any announcements or statements will be issued directly through our official channels only,” he said.
