Forty-one Perlis storm victims to receive disaster recovery aid

KANGAR: One-off disaster recovery assistance will be distributed to 41 storm victims in Perlis from Monday (June 22), says the state Social Welfare Department.

Its director Ku Chik Ku Mat Esa said the financial aid, intended to ease the burden on those whose homes sustained roof damage, would be channelled via electronic fund transfer.

"A total of 41 cases have been recorded based on referrals received by the department. I hope any other affected residents will promptly report the incident to the relevant authorities and us so assistance can be provided without delay," he said on Sunday (June 21).

He said the assistance involved residents from seven areas, namely Kampung Kubang Gajah, Sungai Adam, Taman Tembusu, Taman Mesra, Kampung Alor Lancang, Kampung Changkat Lada and Kampung Belukar.

It was reported that 26 houses were affected by a storm that struck several areas in Kangar and Arau on Thursday (June 18), although the number was expected to increase as information collection and field assessments continued.

Perlis Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said most of the affected houses sustained roof damage. – Bernama
