Seven arrested, 57 motorcycles seized in Ipoh joint operation


IPOH: Seven people were arrested for various offences during a joint enforcement operation along Jalan Jelapang-Silibin here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said those detained included a man for riding a motorcycle recklessly, five who tested positive for drugs and another suspected of stealing a motorcycle in Guar Chempedak, Kedah.

He said the operation, conducted with the Road Transport Department, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Environment Department, was carried out from 12am to 11.30am on Sunday (June 21).

“A total of 157 motorcycles and 199 individuals aged between 14 and 45 were inspected.

“Most of those checked were secondary school students from public and private institutions,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Comm Mohd Alwi said police issued 306 traffic summonses, while the Environment Department issued four compounds and notices.

“A total of 57 motorcycles were also seized during the operation,” he said.

He added that police would continue conducting joint operations from time to time to deter traffic offences, road accidents and criminal activities.
