Two suspects in fake kidnap case remanded for 14 days

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects, including the woman believed to have staged her own kidnapping, have been remanded for 14 days.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the remand order was obtained from the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court on Sunday (July 21).

"The two individuals will be taken to Sarawak for the case being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping for ransom," he said.

In a statement on Saturday (July 20), Kumar said the woman, who is in her 20s, was arrested after she was found during a raid at a house in Taman Perniagaan Setia, Johor Baru.

He said the woman's 43-year-old mother had lodged a report at the Padawan district police headquarters in Sarawak on Friday, claiming that her daughter had been abducted.

During the raid, police also arrested a 27-year-old man.

However, he said there were inconsistencies in the victim's account of the kidnapping, leading to her arrest. – Bernama
