The Chinese-language edition of JS-SEZ presents an opportunity for potential investors to get a clearer understanding of the economic zone.
A forum on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) will be held entirely in Chinese for the first time to draw more investors from Singapore and China.
Event organising chairman Joe Chong said the Chinese language forum was aimed at giving potential investors a clearer understanding of the JS-SEZ.
The event is set for May 27 and 28, from 10am to 9.30pm, at Austin International Convention Centre in Johor Baru.
The first day will feature a seminar and networking session, while the second day will include engagements with Iskandar Regional Development Authority and Invest Johor as well as corporate visits.
“The forum aims to provide insights into JS-SEZ policies and implementation framework,” Chong told StarMetro.
“It will also strengthen Johor-Singapore business ties, and deepen understanding of investment landscapes in Malaysia and Singapore.
“So far, manufacturing industry players from Singapore and China have expressed interest in joining the forum as we have roped in the help of reputable Shenzhen Electronics Industries Association to promote the event.”
Chong said global tax shifts led by the US had given Malaysia an edge over its neighbours, and this could benefit the JS-SEZ.
The event is jointly organised by Johor Baru Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCCI) and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support from Singapore Manufacturing Federation.
Chong, who also heads the JBCCCI commerce committee, said the forum was expected to draw some 500 attendees.
He also shared that Johor investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han was expected to deliver a keynote speech on interpreting JS-SEZ policies.
Other topics in the forum include US-China trade dynamics and navigating tax incentives, while lessons from the Hong Kong-Shenzhen economic zone model will also be looked at.
Future collocation prospects between Malaysia and Singapore will also be discussed.
“There will also be a panel session featuring entrepreneurs from Singapore, China and Taiwan,” said Chong.
“They will share their investment experiences in Johor and the outlook on the JS-SEZ.”
