A SCENIC hill in Hulu Selangor was turned into an international arena for “Kuala Kubu Baru Paragliding Accuracy Competition 2025”.

The three-day event at Bukit Batu Pahat in Ampang Pecah attracted 56 paragliders from six countries – Malaysia, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore.

It featured seven categories including Junior, Veteran, Women’s Team and National.

It was jointly organised by Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS), Kelab Luncur Udara KKB and CloudBass Venture, with support from Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF).

MPHS president Julaihah Jamaludin said the event promoted Hulu Selangor as a destination for eco-adventure and air sports.

“We not only celebrate the conclusion of a world-recognised competition, but also the soaring aspirations of Hulu Selangor as a regional hub for eco-adventure sports,” she said during the closing ceremony.

Julaihah said although the number of participants was slightly lower than expected, due to scheduling conflicts with other regional tournaments, the presence of international teams demonstrated growing recognition for the event.

“A total of seven categories were contested, making this championship inclusive,” she said.

Hulu Bernam constituency coordinator Datuk Mohd Isa Abu Kasim said Kuala Kubu Baru’s natural geography made it ideal for air sports.

“Kuala Kubu Baru has a unique natural advantage with its hilly terrain, stable wind conditions and breathtaking views.

“This makes it an ideal location for paragliding,” he said, adding that with proper infrastructure, promotion and community engagement, the area could become one of the region’s top sports tourism destinations.
