A GROUP of 50 underprivileged children received new sets of clothes to welcome Hari Raya Aidilfitri, courtesy of Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

The “Jom Beli Baju Raya” programme gifted each recipient a full set of either baju melayu or baju kurung worth RM200 from a boutique in Eco Ardence township in Setia Alam, Selangor.

The children aged seven to 17 comprised those from Orang Asli communities, a tahfiz academy and underprivileged recipients nominated by Selangor Development Office (ICU Selangor).

“This programme is part of MBSA’s continuous commitment to strengthen ties between urban folk and underprivileged communities, especially the Orang Asli and B40 groups,” MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Department director Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said in a media statement.

“Through this programme, we hope that the recipients will have the opportunity to experience the joy of preparing for Aidilfitri, while helping to foster a spirit of inclusivity, love and unity among the community.”

Mohd Azhar said MBSA hoped the contribution would also promote awareness of social responsibility among Shah Alam residents to help those in need.

The programme is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) too, namely No Poverty (SDG 1) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

Present at the event were MBSA representatives and Khatam boutique operations head Saiful Ridhwan Zulkepli.
