At Penang Hospital, some beds had broken side railings or mechanical issues, making it difficult for staff to safely position patients.

After learning of the problem, Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia initiated a donation of 105 new hospital beds with mattresses and 35 side tables to improve patient comfort.

Its Penang commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said the contribution was part of the organisation’s ongoing mission to provide compassionate care.

He said the effort was carried out in collaboration with corporate partners, including Hotayi Electronic Sdn Bhd, Gan Chai Leng Sdn Bhd, Magri Foods Sdn Bhd as well as individual donors.

“Through these efforts, Tzu Chi continues to uphold its commitment to serving society with compassion and helping patients receive care in a safe and supportive environment,” said Khoo.

Penang Hospital director Dr Goh Hin Kwang said the contribution would enhance safety and efficiency in patient care.

“Ensuring the safety and dignity of our patients is our highest priority.

“This timely contribution significantly eases the challenges caused by our ageing equipment, allowing our medical teams to provide care with greater ease and efficiency.

“More importantly, it provides our patients with the physical comfort and security they deserve during recovery,” said Dr Goh.

Tzu Chi is known for its medical aid, disaster relief, and community welfare work.

Also present at the handover ceremony were Hotayi Electronics director Jordan Lee and chief executive officer Datuk Goh Guek Eng, Tzu Chi member Foo Chee Huei and Penang Hospital deputy director (management) Wong Cheng Yew. — By LAI KHAN HOONG
