Penang Opposition leader rushed to hospital after suffering blood pressure spike at state assembly


GEORGE TOWN: State opposition leader Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff was rushed to hospital after he suffered a sudden spike in blood pressure while attending the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Thursday (May 12)

Muhammad Fauzi, who is the Sungai Dua assemblyman, initially appeared to be in good health during the assembly session but reportedly began feeling weak at about 12.30pm before receiving initial treatment from on-site medical personnel.

He was subsequently taken by ambulance to the Penang Hospital for further treatment at the emergency unit.

When contacted, PAS Youth deputy chief Muhammad Hafiz Alias said Muhammad Fauzi’s condition is now stable and he is conscious.

“He is currently under close monitoring at the emergency unit. His blood pressure readings have also improved after treatment,” he said.

He added that Muhammad Fauzi had been in good condition earlier in the morning session of the assembly sitting before the incident occurred.
