A TOTAL of RM123mil allocation secured over a period of four years has been used for various development projects.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong said funds were used for road upgrades, educational facilities, housing loans for the construction of new longhouses and a community cultural centre in Dudong, Sibu.
“A key project is the RM40mil upgrading of the 7.6km-long Jalan Pulau Dudong.
“Additionally, SMK Dudong and SK Dudong were granted RM30mil each while 15 rural schools received RM3mil in total to enhance their facilities.
“Following the fire at SM Citizen Middle School in October 2020, our office initiated a fundraising campaign raising RM1.26mil for the construction of a new building block for the school,” he said at the swearing-in ceremony for new committee members of SUPP Dudong and Sibujaya branches.
The event was attended by Sarawak Deputy Premier and SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Wong said he managed to secure housing loans totalling RM12mil from the Housing Development Corporation for 22 longhouses and RM5.8mil in funding for the Durin Community and Cultural Centre.
As for places of worship, he applied for RM1mil for Wan Ming Methodist Church and RM250,000 for Da Wang Temple, Sungai Menyan.
“Future plans include the construction of an Olympic-standard swimming pool in Sibujaya, promoting tourism along Sungai Rajang as well as widening Jalan Salim and Jalan Kong Yit Khim.
“These initiatives are aimed at boosting regional infrastructure and tourism potential in Sibu,” said Wong, who also serves as Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman.
Also present at the event were Sarawak Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting, SUPP Central Youth chairman Kevin Lau, SUPP Women’s Wing chief Kho Teck Wan and SUPP Sibujaya chairman Kong Sing Ping.
